PALAZZO MADAMA – CIVIC MUSEUM
PALAZZO MADAMA – CIVIC MUSEUM
Located in the heart of Turin, Palazzo Madama is a UNESCO site and was the place where the first Senate of the Kingdom of Italy met. It is a summary of the history of the whole city: from Roman gate to fortress in the Middle Ages, then castle of the Acaja princes. Since 1934 Palazzo Madama has been hosting the ancient art collections of the Civic Museum: more than 70,000 paintings, sculptures, illuminated codices, maiolica and porcelain, gold and silver, furniture and textiles, illustrating European art from the early Middle Ages to the Baroque. Visits to Palazzo Madama are organized according to themes: history, architecture and the collections.
